Why do we serve?
"As Southern Baptists our missional vision is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in the world and to make disciples of all the nations." How can we do that if we first do not serve our community and all who pass through it in love and grace? We love because Christ first loved us, as we are also to love our neighbors as we love ourselves- that means taking care of our neighbors in the same way we care for ourselves. Ensuring necessities get to people who need them in our community is one of our predominant mission opportunities.
Outreach Ministries and Opportunities
CARE Ministries
At Second Baptist we have a few ministries that have grown so large that they have found themselves under one large umbrella we call "CARE Ministries". These Ministries have a focus on caring for the physical well being of our community and all those in need. They provide things such as food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items. These items are essential in the daily nourishment of many Americans. By providing such services to our community it offers us an opportunity to share the Love, Grace, and Provision that God has given all of us through the gift of His Son.
Community Relief Days
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, many businesses and governmental aid centers shut down and stopped providing for people in need. Seeing this need, Ridgedale Baptist Church offered to help us help our community more than ten fold. As summer rolled around we opened our doors to the first of several Community Relief Drives. This was one of the biggest opportunities we had been given to serve our communities in a long time. We began day one with a full pantry and clothing closet and by the end of the day we were out of everything. From all across the greater Chattanooga area, people needed help. Since that first day, we have had many Community Relief days- Serving and Ministering to our community in the same way Christ ministers to us, through His great love.
Community Partnerships
GREEN FOR GOOD
Second Baptist believes that because God gave man dominion over all the earth (Genesis 1:26-28) we should take care of it. We should seek after the best practices of taking care of His creation. This is why Second Baptist has partnered with Green for Good. Sponsored by the City of Chattanooga and Co. Lab, Green for Good is an initiative to promote recycling for Planet and for People. After seeking 20 businesses in Main Street through the month of January 2022, committed to recycling their aluminum separately and directing those rebates to Habitat for Humanity Chattanooga. This is something that Second Baptist is more than happy to participate in. This simple community initiative fulfills not only our duty and obligation to take care of God's Creation in a planet sense but it also helps us care for the creation made in His Image- People. By supporting Habitat for Humanity, Second Baptist is supporting affordable housing, an initiative that goes hand-in-hand with our CARE ministries.
Please join us in donating ALL ALUMINUM CANS to Second Baptist so we can direct the most money possible to Habitat for Humanity in turn aiding the construction of Affordable Housing in Chattanooga!
